Spanish day is coming! Spanish day is coming!!
Our second annual Spanish Day is quickly approaching and I am in major need of volunteers who can help lead our craft stations. So please email me at abradon@houstonisd.org if you can help out. Also if you know of any performers please email me their information.
Spanish Day will be held on April 20th! The activities will be the same but they will be spread out throughout the day. All students will be crafting, watching a show, and being read to in Spanish. I will need volunteers for all of these activities. The area in which i need the most help will be in the crafting rooms. So please let me know if you can help out in any way.

The Ultimate Goal!
I would love to say that all of my students will learn Spanish by the end of their elementary journey, but the reality is that they probably will not. Much like ESL students it would take our students three years in a Spanish immersion course to acquire basic interpersonal communication skills (according to Krashen and Cumming's language acquisition studies). Although I am very aware of this theory I still have high expectations for my students and they have risen to the challenges.
I have been very impressed by our students and their willingness to explore the language in the very little time we are together. They have also shown a great appreciation and eagerness to learn the culture and the traditions of the many Spanish speaking countries. To me that is my ultimate goal as a Spanish teacher in elementary, to instill a love to learn a new language and other cultures. To be open-minded and accepting of others. To just love to learn.

El Dia de los Muertos
One of my favorite things to share with our students is the culture and history of the Spanish speaking world. These next two weeks we will be learning about a special holiday, El Dia de los Muertos. A holiday that has Mesoamerican roots and is a lively celebration of life and death.
